Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Announces their Five-Star CMS Rating

The Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) Awards Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Five-Stars for Overall Quality and Performance Considered Much Above Average

Long Beach, NY – Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, a premier 278 bed skilled nursing facility, today announced the prestigious achievement of attaining a Five-Star CMS rating. This rare and difficult to achieve certification is awarded only to select skilled facilities that demonstrated higher than average quality care. Over the past 3 consecutive surveys, Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center was awarded 3 deficiency free surveys by the New York State Department of Health. During the survey process the Department of Health conduct complex and rigorous yearly inspections of nursing facilities to assure all are operating under federal and state regulations.
“It is a tremendous honor to receive a Five-Star rating during this exciting time for our nursing home. Our caring staff not only meets the state standards, but exceeds them, which is something we strive to do each and everyday.” Says Baruch Giberstien, Administrator at Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. “Our dedicated team worked tirelessly to provide the quality of care that earned them the Five-Star recognition”.
The Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily. Nursing Homes with 5 stars are considered to have much above average quality. “Our entire nursing department is dedicated to providing the higher than average quality that is required to attain a Five-Star recognition” says Mary McGill, Director of Nursing at Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. “Each department plays an integral role in providing every resident with excellent service.”
Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center developed unique therapy programs for residents requiring short term rehabilitation. One rehabilitation program features a state-of-the-art Alter G Anti-Gravity Treadmill. The Alter G Treadmill gives geriatric patients the confidence to take a larger step forward in their therapy than previously possible. This unweighting technology reduces your body weight up to 80% less than your normal weight. It rehabilitates lower-extremity injuries with less pain and less impact and improves the mobility, strength and safety for those with neurological conditions.
Another unique rehabilitation program utilizes a 50 foot ceiling based track with a harness that allows patients with a joint replacement, recent amputees, stroke victims and general rehabilitation patients a new and faster approach to regain independence of physical movement and walking control. “This past year numerous short term residents successfully utilized this new feature in our gym” says Jennifer Tesoro, Director of Rehabilitation at Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. “The system promotes an aggressive gait and balance training program as well as a safer rehabilitation process for the patient. The unit has been built with the expertise and knowledge of numerous prosthetic manufactures and nursing care organizations.” These unique programs help every resident reach their rehabilitation goals and add to the robust Five-Star level of care Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center offers.
